As a family of God, we place a rosebud on the altar in honor of the birth of Gavin James Manning. He weighed 7 lbs.1 oz. and was 20 inches long. His proud parents are Joe and Lisa Manning. He joins big brother, Michael.

August 13th – Stockholders Banquet, 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall

This dinner is for those Stockholders who, through prayer and financial support, invested in the youth mission trip this past April. The youth would like to share their experience, their accomplishment and the impact the trip made on their faith.

August 17th – Young at Heart(s) will be meeting at Charbonos in Avon at 11:30 am.

August 17thDiabetes Group meeting. The topic will be “Summer Tips with Diabetes.”

August 21st – Avon United Methodist Men welcome Tom and Sandy Milligan from Vermillion County to this month’s meeting, beginning with breakfast at 7:30 am at AUMC. The topic will be “Indiana Farming 2010.” All men are encouraged to attend. For information call Malcolm Sturm at 745-0117.

August 21st – The Women’s Reading Group will meet at Trader’s Point Creamery and discuss The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner’s Semester at America’s Holiest University.

Thank you for recycling all of your papers during the month of June! We received a check for $175.26 from Abitibi.

The Women's Reading Group

Colts Ticket Auction to Benefit Endowment Fund: Two tickets to the Colts vs. San Francisco 49ers preseason game have been donated and are being auctioned to benefit the Endowment Fund. The game is Sunday, August 15th at 1:00 pm. The tickets are in section 429, row 1. Face value of the ticket pair is $158. To bid on the tickets, please contact Susan Long at slong@indlegion.org or call 317-850-0370. The minimum opening bid for the pair is $50. As of July 28th, no one has bid. Bidding will be closed at midnight on Monday, August 9th and the top bidder will be notified on Tuesday, August 10th. Support the start of another good Colts season and a worthy ministry! Winning bid will be added to the Avon UMC Endowment Fund and tickets may be picked up at the church.

Music Ministry at The Avon Village We are looking for anyone who can help Pastor Ron at the Avon Village, Alzheimer’s unit on the fourth Sunday of each month. We start this service at 1:30 pm.  Anyone can sing these songs, so please consider volunteering your time and talent for one hour. Contact Brenda Hartz at 248-2945.

Travel to Europe A small group of Avon UMC members have organized a Rhine River cruise that begins with two days in Zurich, Switzerland prior to boarding the cruise boat in Basel.   We’ll be departing Indy on May 5th, 2011 and returning on May 15th, 2011.  The cruise includes stops in Strasbourg (FRA), Heidelberg (GER), Mainz-Rudesheim (GER), Koblenz (GER), Cologne (GER), and Amsterdam (HOL).  If you’re interested in going on this trip, contact Duane or Doreen Ward at 317-203-6063 or email thewards1010@indy.rr.com for price and booking info.  Save $500 per person by booking prior to August 31st, 2010.  Come join us for a fun spring in Europe!

August 4thWednesday Wellspring.  Explore the spiritual book of John for the next 4 weeks with Pastor Karen. Meet in the Conference Room at 7:00 pm.

Disciple Registration

 August 22nd – Disciple I, Disciple III, & Disciple IV Bible classes begin for people with all levels of Bible knowledge. Pre-registration is necessary and Childcare is available.

·         Disciple I is a 34 week study and will meet on Thursdays from 6:30-9:00 pm with Susan Long leading.

·         Disciple III is a 32 week study and will meet on Wednesdays from 9:00-11:30 am with Kathy Dillon leading.

Disciple IV is a 32 week study and will meet on Thursdays from 6:30-9:00 pm.

Jesus In the Gospels Registration

September 2nd“Jesus In the Gospels”, a new 30 week Bible study of Christ, will begin. This study looks at the way each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of God’s Son that emerges from each Gospel.

            * Classes are designed for people familiar with the Bible.

            * Meets Thursday evenings 6:30-9:00 pm led by Mike Johnson

            * Childcare provided.

   * Pre-registration is necessary.                                                               Cost for student books will be $35.
