Avon United Methodist Church

Welcome to the Avon United Methodist Church special needs ministry.  Our prayer is that you will feel the unconditional love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  The ministry provides a Christ-centered, safe and caring environment for those with unique challenges, abilities and disabilities.

Our mission is to serve and minister to families and individuals with special needs by sharing the unconditional love and compassion of Jesus Christ, creating an environment where all people with all abilities can worship, and to help strengthen and nurture the family in their spiritual growth.

                   Unconditional                   Christ-centered             Safe and caring

John 9:1-3

"As he went along, he saw a blind man from birth.  His disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?  Neither this man nor his parents sinned, said Jesus, but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."

Thanks!!!

Special Needs Awareness Sunday, held on April 11th, 2010, was a huge success thanks to the active involvement of a host of volunteers.  Special thanks to the Church Leadership (pasters, lay-leaders, music-ministers, etc.) and the entire Special Needs team.

Very positive comments came from many in the congregation and several people volunteered to serve within the ministry.  Volunteers are now participating through our Special Needs Buddy program and a few people have agreed to help by being an In-service Contact (information about these two roles in the ministry are listed below).

Training Workshop

Our new volunteers attended the first successful Special Needs Ministry Volunteer/Leadership Training workshop on May 2nd, 2010.  We had a wonderful turnout from both volunteers and ministry team members. The Justus family shared the Family Perspective, and Beth Biever shared the Medical Perspective for the Training workshop and both did an excellent job!

We are still looking for more volunteers to serve as In-Service Contacts and Buddys.  Anyone interested can contact the church and leave a message for me (Penny Hanlon) at 317-272-4068.  There will be a training session for the next wave of volunteers in August.  (Details to follow)

Hope Whispers Bible Study

This 4 week study will look at how God speaks to you during the challenges of your journey.  Whether you are raising a child with special needs, caring for a loved one with a terminal illness, or living with a chronic life changing disability; how does God whisper "hope" to you.  Coming the summer of 2010.
