Develop as a Disciple – One of the ways we grow in our relationship with God and become more mature as followers of Jesus is by spending time praying and studying scripture daily. Each day this week, before you read the verses listed below, invite Christ to speak to you through the words of scripture by saying, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10b).

Monday – Read Philippians 2:1-5 and use the words to guide your prayer.

Tuesday – Read Philippians 2:6-11 and praise God for Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Consider singing or listening to a worship song or hymn during your prayer time.

Wednesday – Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 and pray for the people of the world, including those who are disconnected from Christ, Christians, persons in need, our denomination, Avon UMC, and our community.

Thursday – Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 and thank God for calling us to follow Christ, equipping us to serve, and commissioning us to make disciples.

Friday – Read Jeremiah 9:23-24 and sit, kneel, stand, walk, or drive in silence as you wait for the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s message to you.

Saturday – Rest, enjoy recreation, and reflect upon the past week. Re-read verses or phrases that the Holy Spirit brings to your attention.
