Children’s Ministry Parents

Here is a schedule of ways your children can engage in church activities this summer.

Verse Investigators

Parents: This Summer our children will be invited to embark on an adventure into the Bible or shall I say, “investigation.”  Each week, children will receive an envelope in the mail with “clues” to identify the character from the upcoming week’s story. The “clues” will consist of a coloring sheet, a riddle, and a “surprise” (anything that can fit in an envelope). On Sunday mornings, parents will be sent an email with a link to watch the video lesson. Children will obtain their final clue, via video lesson on Sunday morning, from a virtual Biblical “avatar” who will help us to solve our class investigation.

If you email me, before Sunday at 8:00 pm with the mystery Bible character’s name, children can receive 1 point every week. At the end of the summer session, children who have accumulated 6 or more points will receive a small prize.

If you are unsure whether you are on children’s ministry mailing list or would like to be added, email Kateri Crawford at: kcrawford@avonum.com

#PRAYITFORWARD

During our current health crisis, the phrase “we are in this together” has become a popular, broadly-used phrase. Well, let’s show our church family, our neighbors, and our communities that we are united by the love of Christ and are praying for them and each other. When you see this sign in your yard, take your family pic with it and post it to the Avon UMC Children’s Ministry Facebook page in the comments with #PRAYITFORWARD and #AVONUMC. The goal is create a prayer chain that will reach every family within our larger AUMC Children’s Ministry. Before your family transfers the sign to the yard of another family, please say a prayer for the family.

*To assure that every family receives the sign at least once, please check out the pictures on facebook or contact me at kcrawford@avonumc.com

Brick Building with the Bible

(Open to families with children under the age of 12)

Families will compete by presenting the most creative and accurate scene from the Bible story of the week. Every Saturday morning, I will post the story of the week on the Avon UMC Children’s Ministry Facebook page. Families will have until 5:00 pm on Friday afternoon to submit photos and a video explaining the scene they have depicted to me at kcrawford@avonumc.com.

Your family creation is judged by members of the church whom are not eligible to participate. Your photos and videos will be sent anonymously with only a number to ensure fairness and to avoid favoritism. Once the judges have voted, the winner will be announced and all photos will be uploaded on Facebook.

But, weekly winners also receive bragging rights! At the end of this health crisis, the family with the most wins will take home a new LEGO set. Good Luck!

 NEXT

Take the NEXT step with Wesley’s Treehouse!

Wesley’s Treehouse NEXT is about extending giving beyond immediate family and close friends through projects that serve others in the Greater Indianapolis community. The Scripture states: “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (Bible, John 3:18).

As the “Body of Christ”, we can be the “hands and feet of Jesus”. What did Jesus do with his actual hands and feet? He loved others, neighbors, and strangers alike. “This is how everyone will know you are my disciples, when you love each other.” (Bible, John 13:35).

With NEXT, children can go further with service to those outside of their close circle in a safe, healthy way and become more compassionate and empathetic.

Children are invited to enjoy pizza and a beverage with their peers for $3 from 5:30 – 6:00 pm. From 6:00 – 7:00 pm, children will work on their community service project.

Thursdays Labor Day through Memorial Day. NEXT follows the Avon school calendar. When Avon schools are not in session, NEXT will not meet.

Cancelled until further notice.
