Children’s Ministry

Children’s Ministry parents, here is a schedule of ways your children can engage in church activities while we are socially distancing ourselves.

Thursday at 4:30 pm – Live Zoom group session (private online group) for all the Avon UMC young artists. Supplies used for 3/19 will be white paper, pencil, crayons(recommend Crayola) or colored pencils. If you do not have some of the supplies needed, do not hesitate to reach out before 3/19.

Friday through Sunday – Weekly Bible Story and lesson via website and Facebook. Within the lesson, families will find the main story points, family discussion starters, and family activities. Parents and children are welcome to post public prayer requests on the Facebook page, in the comments section under the lesson. Private prayer requests can be sent to: kcrawford@avonumc.com and dwalker@avonumc.com

Sundays at 11:00 am – Private online group via Zoom to discuss the lesson and allow the children to connect with church friends.

*** Zoom URL will be sent to all Children’s Ministry parents 15 MINUTES PRIOR to meeting. This is an opportunity for children communicate and connect with their church friends at a safe and healthy distance. I do ask that children be respectful of their peers when commenting and/or posting.

Starting Saturday, March 28th!

Brick Building with the Bible

(Open to families with children under the age of 12)

Families will compete by presenting the most creative and accurate scene from the Bible story of the week. Every Saturday morning, I will post the story of the week on the Avon UMC children’s Ministry Facebook page. Families will have until 5pm on Friday afternoon to submit photos and a video explaining the scene they have depicted to me at kcrawford@avonumc.com.

Your family creation is judged by members of the church whom are not eligible to participate. Your photos and videos will be sent anonymously with only a number to ensure fairness and to avoid favoritism. Once the judges have voted, the winner will be announced and all photos will be uploaded on Facebook.

But, weekly winners also receive bragging rights! At the end of this health crisis, the family with the most wins will take home a new LEGO set.

Good Luck!

Wesley’s Treehouse

Wesley’s Treehouse is an art based class open to children in 3rd and 4th grade. The class is designed to build a community for children, where they can build and foster healthy, Christian relationships with God and one another while exploring their faith. Session 4 will focus on exploring the language of cartooning, storylines, and books.  Students will find their own unique style through comics.  Students should expect to use their imaginations to create a comic book based off a Biblical story of their choosing.  All materials related to this class will be provided by Avon United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry.

Cancelled until after Spring Break.

Take the NEXT step with Wesley’s Treehouse!

We have gifted family and friends with some cool, creative art pieces during our previous sessions of Wesley’s Treehouse. Wesley’s Treehouse NEXT is about extending giving beyond immediate family and close friends through projects that serve others in the Greater Indianapolis community. The Scripture states: “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (Bible, John 3:18).

As the “Body of Christ,” we can be “the hands and feet of Jesus.” What did Jesus do with his actual hands and feet? He loved others, neighbors and strangers alike. “This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other” (Bible, John 13:35).

With NEXT, children can go further in service to those outside of their close circle in a safe, healthy way and become more compassionate and empathetic.

Within the first session of Wesley’s Treehouse NEXT, children in grades 3 and 4 will be alternating weeks of partnering with the “Bag Ladies of AUMC” in constructing sleeping mats at the church for the homeless in Indianapolis and reading and/or playing games with mature generations at a senior center. Children are invited to eat pizza and a beverage with their peers for $3 from 5:30 to 6:00 pm. From 6:00 – 7:00 pm children will begin their community service project.

Children enrolled in Wesley’s Treehouse are welcome to participate. Also, students not enrolled in Wesley’s Treehouse are welcome to participate! Hopefully, your children can do both!

Cancelled until after Spring Break.

Bee-Attitudes

The Bee-Attitudes is an art based class open to children from age 5 to grade 2.  The class is designed to build a community for children, where they can build and foster healthy, Christian relationships with God and one another while exploring their faith. In Session 2, children learn to draw and paint their favorite animals.  Photo references of animals around the world provide inspiration for children to practice combining line, form, and color to the capture the likeness of a wide range of animals and their environments. All materials related to this class will be provided by Avon United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry.

Cancelled until after Spring Break.
